Spread across a long brick wall in Amsterdam Nieuw-West, the word Amsterdam emerges in sweeping Gothic-style calligraphy, painted in rich blue tones. The bold letters are framed by lush green foliage and palm-like leaves, transforming the urban surface into a tropical landscape. The elegant letterforms contrast with the wild vegetation, blending the rigidity of tradition with the vitality of nature.

Created by the Dutch strreet art crew TeamBlazin, Amsterdam reflects their mastery of Calligraffiti—a fusion of classical lettering and street art energy. The mural reclaims the city’s name as both artwork and identity, asserting pride and belonging while adding a sense of grandeur to the everyday street.

Situated in a residential neighbourhood, the mural acts as a visual landmark. It celebrates the city not only as a place but also as an idea: rooted in history, alive with creativity, and continually reinventing itself through the language of the streets.

Dutch artist Team Blazin is an esteemed Hoofddorp-based designer, calligraffiti painter, graphic artist, and entrepreneur. TeamBlazin’ is the single permanent Dutch artist in SAMA’s collection, and SAMA’s unique introduction and connection to the subculture of contemporary Dutch graffiti, which shadows SAMA’s main disciplinary focus, street art. Through shared goals such as social, artistic, cultural, and entrepreneurial impact, SAMA and TeamBlazin’ have supported each other’s growth, developing several social and educational projects together.
