A riot of color and energy explodes across this Amsterdam wall, filled with smiling fish-like characters in motion. With their wide grins, single eyes, and playful expressions, they tumble, fly, and ride bicycles through a surreal, cartoon-like world. The background bursts with bold blues, pinks, oranges, and greens, giving the mural a sense of constant movement and joy.
Created by Spanish artist Pez, Happiness embodies his signature style, where every character wears a contagious smile. Since starting his career in Barcelona in the 1990s, Pez has developed his cheerful figures into a recognisable symbol of positivity in the street art world.
In this neighbourhood setting, the mural transforms an ordinary brick façade into a celebration of playfulness and optimism. Its humor and vibrancy invite passersby to pause, smile, and share in a simple yet powerful message: happiness is best when it spreads.
Pez (1976, Barcelona) started graffiti painting in the outskirts of his hometown, back in 1999. He helped transform tagging into the bold characters and vibrant visuals we now call street art. Pez’s alter ego is an always smiling fish, which says a lot about his positive character and a lust to spread happiness everywhere. Swapping a career in software for the streets, he found freedom, adrenaline, and endless creativity in the urban landscape. His work has been featured in major documentaries like Exit Through the Gift Shop and countless books and magazines on graffiti culture. Beyond the walls, Pez has collaborated with global brands including Adidas, Toyota, and Reebok, making his playful, energetic style recognizable worldwide.
